UNDERSTANDING THE MASS

Submitted by Sid Starr

The next action in Mass is the sign of the cross. See Ezekiel 9:4-6 for the Old Testament reference, using Ezekiel's imagery and Revelations 7:3 and 9:4 in the New Testament. The sign of the cross is not simply a way to begin prayer and worship, it is a powerful prayer and tradition from the early centuries of Christianity. When we trace the sign of the cross on our bodies, we are calling on God to bless us, assist us, and guard us from all harm and evil. There is much more to the sign of the cross which we will continue to explore next week.

LEGION OF MARY

This is a reminder that the Legion of Mary is open to both women and men. Meetings are after morning Mass every Friday. If you do not wish to be an active member but would still like to participate, auxiliary membership is open to everyone. The only requirement is the daily recitation of the rosary. Please consider joining. If interested contact Robin Abbott at 918-638-2642 or by email: robinabott2008@gmail.com. Please also join us for First Saturday Mass held on the first Saturday of each month.

THE LIVING ROSARY

The Living Rosary is a circle of 20 'associates', each of whom pledges to pray one decade for a specific mystery, every day for life*. (Missing a day does not constitute a sin, but should not occur through willful neglect). In this way, each circle of 20 'associates' prays an entire Rosary every day, forming a perpetual 'living Rosary'! Better still - each Living Rosary associate receives the benefits, graces, and strength of praying an entire Rosary, every day! Please say your decade every day for the general intentions of 'St. Patrick's/Our Lady of the Lake Parish Families' and for your personal intentions (this will include praying for each others' personal intentions). During the months of May and October, we encourage all parishioners to pray a 5-decade Rosary when possible.

If you would like to join fellow parishioners by reciting one mystery of the rosary each day, please contact Robin Abbott at 918-638-2642 or via email: robinabbott2008@gmail.com.

*We are asking you to commit for a period of two years, then we will update.
